Christmas cheer and season ends

Yamba Women’s Bowling Club Christmas party on Thursday December 3 marked the end of the season, and a welcome break for members. The day was one of great hilarity and everyone entered into the spirit of the day with some terrific outfits adding to the festive atmosphere. Action on the Green began the day with a few innovations adding to the players’ enjoyment, then 63 members adjourned to the Boardwalk Bar for the concert and lunch. Thanks to Judy Pryor and her band of Santa’s helpers, the tables looked a treat, and the repast fit for a king (or queen) provided by chef Craig Spackman and his crew was first class. Members were appreciative of the fact that the Management Committee had taken the decision to again subsidise the luncheon from funds raised. The concert was also a great success due to the tireless work of Joan Scadden and the willingness of some of our crazier members to participate to the full. We even had three hairy legged gentlemen bowlers lending us their legs for our synchronised swimming skit. Many thanks to Bob, Maz and Greg. With around 20 hampers and a number of other prizes, all donated by our members, to be won, lots of ladies ended the day with some lovely extras to take home. The following day, Friday 4, the final of the Mixed Pairs was played in very ordinary conditions. Despite this, the game was exceedingly close and not decided until the final bowl. Alan Abbott’s team of Cathryn Aitchison (lead) Judy Abbott and Marty Wood (third) took a one shot lead into the last end but through some precision bowling Bob Ballantyne’s team of Wendy Ballantyne, Kaye Mason and Alan Parker snared a rare three shots to win by two. Now excitement is building for the Presentation Night on December 10. Already a good number has indicated they are attending, but there is still time to get names in for what should be a great night, capped by the announcement of the male and female Bowler of the Year. Then for a “rest”. But bowls resumes on Tuesday January 12 with the Championship Pairs commencing on that date. There is still time to enter, as the draw will not be done until the New Year. There is also information on the board for all next year’s CRDWBA events, and members should check these out. Our sincere thanks to the John at the CV Independent for his ongoing support in getting our news and photos out there. We wish you and the staff a safe and happy festive season. And to all our members, enjoy the break, Merry Christmas, and rev up in the New Year cause there’s lots going on straight away. Till 2016. Wendy Ballantyne
