In addition to the normal rounds of social bowls the club also hosted the final of the 2015 Mixed Fours Championship, the 2015 Bob Ware Memorial Triples tournament, the 2015 One Stop Tyre and Automotive Mixed Pairs tournament and the RSL Friendship Day. The Mixed Fours Championship was a thrilling game with the outcome decided on the second last bowl of the match. Alan Abbott’s team of Cathryn Aitchison, Judy Abbott and Martyn Wood appeared to have the title in their grasp leading 19 shots to 18 with one end to play. However, Bob Ballantyne rallied his troops and Wendy Ballantyne, Kaye Mason and Allan Parker responded brilliantly. The penultimate bowl delivered by Alan Abbott did not go according to plan and Bob was not required to play his final shot. The final score was 21 shots to 19 in a memorable contest. The Bob Ware Memorial Triples Tournament was played on Saturday with 28 teams venturing to the greens for three robust rounds of competition. In the end it was the team of Rex Wiseman, Trevor Govey and Don Plummer from Maclean who were victorious over the Yamba combination of Norm Sinclair, Mick Stamp and John Luchetti by a narrow margin. A full list of results is on the notice board. The One Stop Tyre and Automotive Yamba Mixed Pairs tournament was contested for the second time on Sunday when 24 teams of pairs enjoyed the terrific conditions and well prepared greens. Two teams managed to win all three of their games, however it was Marjorie Thompson and Peter Forrester who captured the win with a superior total margin of 30 shots compared to Cathryn Aitchison and Alan Abbott’s 22.
