Maclean Men’s Bowls

The last game of Championship bowls for the year was played last Sunday morning. It was the final of the Mixed Handicap Singles, between Warren McDonald (-8) and Ross Murphy (+2). It took ‘Wazza’ just thirteen ends to wipe out the handicap difference. From then on he continued to forge ahead of a gallant Ross, who tried hard but was just not able to match the consistent draw shots of his opponent. The final score was a resounding win to ‘Wazza’ with the score at 31 shots to 17. Congratulations to Warren and a well done to Ross for making the final. As mentioned last week the final results of the ‘Last Friday of the Month’ single entry triples competition has been decided. Final points before adjustment were Mick Catling and Doug Starr both on 234 points with Neville Harris third on 225 points. Trevor Govey on 215 and Laurie Funnell on 210. After the final adjustments were made. Mick Catling is the winner on 223, Doug Starr the runner-up on 217 and Neville Harris third on 214. Equal fourth were Trevor Govey and Laurie Funnell both on 202 points. I must apologise to ‘Riverland Travel’ as in last week’s report I referred to our good sponsors as ‘Travel-land’.
