Yamba basketball Association in conjunction with the Raymond Laurie Sports Centre are hosting the 7th Prawn Bowl Basketball Carnivals this February, with the Senior Prawn Bowl being played on the 13th and 14th and then the Junior Prawn Bowl being played on Sunday, February 28.
The Yamba Prawn Bowl Basketball Carnivals are aimed at being a pre-season hit out for all teams before the tough season ahead for all Junior and senior players. With the winning teams receiving the Prawn Bowl and Prawn plates for 2016 filled with the Famous Yamba Prawns.
Both Carnivals are shaping up with excellent numbers and the Senior Carnival has already attracted teams from the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Ballina, Grafton, Bellingen with the local Yamba Trawlers Fielding teams in the A Grade Men and Women’s and the B Grade Men’s division. The A men Trawlers will have a solid team led by Any Lombardo and Andy Maloney and mixed with some youth will be exciting to watch. The A Women will be relying a lot on the youth of Yamba to step up. Fiona Vesper and Bree McFarlane will be set for a big weekend, combining with Hayley Binge and Sarah Daley. The B Men will be a combination of youth and experience with Jack Roberts looking to lead the team and encourage the younger Patty O’Mahoney, Rocky Harris and Bill Bolte to play their natural games utilising their speed.
The Junior Prawn Bowl has been receiving steady nominations from the North Coast area and our Junior teams are ready to suit up and have a fun hit out against the rival competition. Catering for teams in both girls and boys, under 10’s, under 12’s and under 14’s the Carnival is all about developing the junior basketball athletes and giving them a chance to have a good hit out in the pre-season.
