Yamba women’s Pairs final

In a very close high quality game, Kay Mason and Wendy Ballantyne prevailed by just one shot over Lorraine Asbury and Helen Atkinson in a riveting finale to the Yamba Pairs championship.

It was an intriguing game from the outset, when on the first end, Wendy converted 1 down to 3 up with her last bowl, and it was “game on”.

Lorraine led brilliantly throughout, and down 3-8 on 7 ends, she and Helen strung three ends together to peg it back to 7-8 on 10.

The game remained very tight, with both teams producing some wonderful bowls, and sat at 13-12 in Kaye and Wendy’s favour with just two ends to play.

Kaye then produced some beautiful bowls to put pressure on the opposition, with her and Wendy 14-12 up and holding 2 on the last end. Helen then produced a superb delicate yard on shot to snatch the shot, but was stymied by another great draw from Kaye who ensured her team went down by just one, and secured the result 14-13.

Congratulations to all four ladies, it was a most worthy final and played in the best competitive spirit. Very well done to Kaye and Wendy, who have teamed up to win this Championship for the third year in succession.
