Yamba Women’s Bowls

A feast of fine bowls will be on offer at Yamba Women’s Bowls this week, with some excellent bowls ensured over several competitions. First up, after a brief disruption, the Yamba Women’s Bowling Club’s Consistency Singles continues this week with quarter finals in both Major and Minor divisions scheduled for Tuesday 13th. The semis are due to be held on Thursday 15th, and the final on Tuesday 20th. The final of the Major/Minor pairs is next on the agenda on Friday 16th October at 9.30am. In addition, this weekend will treat us to a feast of good bowls in the Mixed Fours competition, with rounds one and two set down for Saturday 17th followed by rounds 3 and 4 on Sunday 18th. Meanwhile, hot competition continued in Social bowls on Thursday 8th. With the rinks filled with pairs games on Tuesday 6th.  Jane Pearson (skip) and Beryl Nielsen teamed up to take out the Lucky Rink Winners’ prize, with a  narrow victory over Jan Funnell (skip) and Jill Miller. It was a close thing till Jane and Beryl came home with a wet sail and snatched a 3 shot win. Lyn Olsson (skip) and Val Pate took home the lucky r/up prize with a comfortable win over Carol Casement (skip) and Colleen Beard, while the lucky consolation prize was won by Ruth Fletcher (skip) and Helen Atkinson. They went down narrowly to Cathryn Aitchison (skip) and Cheryl Deveney. Two other match ups were close affairs, with S Owen/J Sinclair getting up over G Hall/Gloria Davis, and M Sakac/J Button squeaking home against M Wall/K Mason. The other game resulted in a good win to E Moodie/D Collier over R McKibbin/W Ballantyne. Special mention and thanks must go to a very welcome visitor from England, Sheila Saunders, who joined us for a game last week. Despite the weather, familiar to Sheila, forcing us off the greens, it was lovely to make meet Sheila and hear about bowls in England. Wendy Ballantyne
