With the current course conditions the best they have been for some time, there has been a substantial improvement in the scoring in the recent couple of weeks.  This was more than evident in last Saturday’s McLennan Deece Optometrist October monthly mug, with the overall winner, Danny Li (8), finishing with a outstanding 65 nett to easily win the event from four players, from four grades, who all finished with a nett 68.  Those four players include Nick Fuller (9) who claimed A Grade, Tommy Gillett (13) who was rewarded with B Grade, Bruce Wotton (18) not only cleaned up his playing partners, but took out C Grade.  In D Grade, a player who said he could not putt, Ricky Paxton (23) was that grades winner, also with nett 68.  The runner-up spots in all four grades went to Neville Gilbert (9) in (A) with 70 on a c/b.  Bill dudgeon (14) with 69 in (B), also with 69 was Michael Johnson (15) in (C), Leo Jordan (28) had to survive a c/b to claim (D).  There were a total of 128 players in the event and to secure a pro-ball you required a score of 75 nett or better. On Sunday the 2015 Foursomes Championships were held and winners were the Scotty Davis and Matthew Worthing combination with a 27 hole gross total of 119.  The nett winners were Trevor Townsend and Brian Dougherty, who finished with 112. Last week’s mid week saw John Dougherty win Tuesday with 45 Stableford points. John was rewarded with both the members competition and the Veteran’s competition, which was held in conjunction. It will be youth up against experience in the final of Grafton Undercover Storage Singles knockout with Kayne Endean up against Phil Tarrant. This weekend, 14 players will be travelling to Armidale representing our Club in the first round of the 2015 Ray Balderston Memorial Shield.  Grafton Golf Club will then host the return round in a few weeks time, when the Armidale Club travel down in their quest to win the shield.  For those players who remain in Grafton, the event for you this Saturday will be a 18 hole American Foursomes.  The competition on this occasion being sponsored by Dean and Corrie Hayes.  Despite the fact that a large contingent of Grafton players going to Armidale a strong field is still anticipated in this unique event.
