Yamba Veterans Week of Golf

Perfect weather greeted 208 veteran golfers for the start of the Yamba Veterans Week of Golf. The business houses of Yamba sponsored all trophies on the day and the organising committee for the week thanks them for their generosity. The opening event, a mixed 2ball saw the team of Jenny and Robert Coleman from Dalhousie veterans group Victoria return an excellent score of 50 points. They were followed by Robyn Stevens and Bryan Connor from Port Kembla and Howlong with 46 points. In third position were Lynette and Stephen Fry from Everglades with 44 points followed by Annelise and Peter Stoward from Deloraine in Tasmania on a countback from Janette and Tony Wilson from Tumut with 43 points on a countback. The singles event for players without partners saw Albert Smart from Camden lead the field with 39 points. Second was Peter Ryan from Kiama with 38 points and David Peate from Coolangatta Tweed Heads was third with 36 points. The nearest the pins were as follows: Mens 3rd – Peter Gwynne (Yamba); 9th – Wayne Brown (Gosford); 10th – Phillip Lester (Keperra); 12th – Dudley Parker (Moree); 17th – Eric Nye (Keperra). Ladies 3rd – Jenny Coleman (Marysville); 9th – Jean Ball (Gailes); 10th – Anne MacGregor (The Coast); 12th – Jenny Coleman (Marysville); 17th – Robyn Pollock (Redcliffe). Tuesday sees the start of the 36 hole events and the week culminates on Friday with the NSW VGA trophy day.
