Yamba Major Triples Champions: Jeff Cook, Bruce Blanch and Tom Morrow
Yamba Major Triples Champions: Jeff Cook, Bruce Blanch and Tom Morrow
The final of the 2015 Major Triples Championship was contested on Sunday. The clash between Tom Morrow’s side of Jeff Cook and Bruce Blanch and the Martyn Wood skipped combination comprising Greg Dickman and Greg Johnson had promised to be an entertaining and keenly fought struggle. The actual event delivered this and more with the appreciative and vocal throng of spectators being treated to an afternoon of high quality lawn bowls. Tom and his team began the game in scintillating form and the early signs were ominous for the two Gregs and Martyn when trailing seven shots to nil after only five ends of play. However, Martyn ensured his team never panicked and managed to level the score board at 17 shots each on the nineteenth end. The last six ends were a battle royal with Greg Dickman, Greg Johnson and Martyn Wood displaying true championship quality and taking the lead as the game reached its climax. But, again Jeff Cook gave his team every opportunity to snare victory with precision lead bowls, Bruce Blanch complemented this with placement and poise providing Tom Morrow the opportunity to dictate terms in the concluding stages of the contest. The final score of 25 shots to 22 was a fair indication of the colossal contest and positioned Jeff Cook, Bruce Blanch and Tom Morrow as the club’s Major Triples champions for 2015.
