Yamba to host important rugby league summit this Saturday
The grassroots rugby league summit being hosted in Yamba this Saturday has steadily attracted the sectors attention with delegates from NSW rugby league, Country Rugby League and NRRRL confirming their attendance.
The summit convenor said she was really happy so far with those who have put their hand up to attend and the number of online surveys that have now been filled out.
“The summit we are hosting on Saturday is run as an independent study and a basic health check of the state of rugby league in the bush so its great to see these delegates from the NSWRL, CRL and NRRRL support our event.
Sixteen club’s from as far south as Bendemeer, to as far west as Armidale and as far north as Kingscliff have now filled out the online survey and there are some definite trends for the current state of rugby league in the bush.
The majority have said their issues are attracting players, sponsors and volunteers and those filling out the survey have given some great suggestions on how to fix it.
Hearing about the issues straight form the coal face of the sport is important because sometimes sports governing bodies operate in a silo.
I am still waiting to hear back from NRL boss Todd Greenberg to see if he has accepted our invitation and I expect to get a lot more feed back this week because our summit is one of the featured stories in this weeks ‘Rugby League Week,” the convenor said.
NSW Sport & Recreation have funded the summit and local MP Chris Gulaptis has championed the cause.
“Rugby League is the premier sport in the Clarence Valley and for many in regional NSW and it transcends all walks of life. The Rugby League Summit will ensure evidence based conversations will provide a deeper understanding of the current issues and strengthen the sport as we move forward into the future ” Mr Gulaptis said.
