On Wednesday, February 8 Maclean High School held a very successful swimming carnival at Maclean Pool. A special thank you to Angie Warburton who opened the carnival with Welcome to Country.
One of the many highlights of the day was the tremendous turnout for the early morning races for the 200m freestyle and the individual medley. Approximately 40 students arrived at the pool at 7.30am ready to compete as the heavens opened. After the heat of the previous days the rain was a welcome relief.
As the day progressed the sun shone and both staff and students moved to the beat of DJ Prussian. Well done to the many staff and students who dressed up for the Hawaiian theme and the ever popular all-in-scramble where all students cooled down and completed as many laps as possible in a short time period. This year a massive 2,354 laps were swum in the all-in-scramble.
The Year 12 had a strong presence this year as they contested all races and tried hard, even in trying to stop Mr Black from swimming to victory in the annual staff vs student relay. Also, it was brilliant as Year 12, Mrs Hollis and Ms Watts led the school in the dance ‘Nutbush’ on the pool deck. What a sight to behold!

Congratulations to Gordon, the 2017 Champion House with 1269points, 2nd Paterson 1265 points followed by Kendall and Lawson.
A special thank you to the helpers on the day – Mya Smith, Alyssa Luland, Ashley Luland, Colbie Cameron, Jacqui Samms, Erin Shugg, Ember Edie, Kori Eaton, Kristel Gravolin, Summa Collins, Emilie-Rose Ewan, Jaz Trickett, Emily Poynton, Lachlan Johnson, who worked tirelessly taking event cards to timekeepers and then to the recording areas or helping with morning tea. They easily completed at least 10,000 steps. Also well done to Mitchell Niemiec and Luke Plummer who assisted our para athletes swim their races.
A school carnival cannot be successful without the help of many people. Special thanks to the parents and staff (Mr Sutton, Mr Morgans, Mr Lange and Mr Whiteside) who helped with the distance events at 7.30am, Maclean High staff and the Maclean pool staff who worked tirelessly feeding the masses.
