Yamba Mixed Championships this weekend

The 2016 Mixed Pairs Championships get underway this weekend with Rounds 1 and 2 scheduled for Saturday and the quarter and semi-finals to be contested on Sunday. The morning rounds commence at 9am and the afternoon contests commence at 1pm each day. A large field of 25 teams has entered the championship with the pairings of Wendy and Bob Ballantyne, Cathryn Aitchison and Alan Abbott and last year’s runners up, Robyn McPherson and Allan Parker, favoured by many pendants. However, the combinations of Judy Abbott and Steve Kliendienst, Marjorie Thompson and Peter Forrester or Denise Burey and Graham Meany could also be in the mix by the conclusion of play on the weekend. Spectators are encouraged to come along and support these fascinating mixed championship contests. Nomination sheets for the Major/Minor Pairs, Minor Triples and Minor Singles Championships are on the noticeboard and are filling encouragingly. Please check the board for closing and competition dates. The Yamba Bowling and Recreation Club will host the Zone One Grade 4, 5 and 6 Pennant play-offs on the weekend of June 25-26. A number of volunteers will be required to assist with the event and a sheet seeking names will be placed on the noticeboard in the near future. This activity will provide an ideal opportunity to test our arrangements and procedures prior to the Grade 3 State Pennant finals to be held at the Club at the end of July. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. The next travelling bowlers sojourn is a trip to Urunga and Macksville on the weekend of July 9-10. A participation sheet, with all details, is on the Travelling Bowler’s noticeboard. Get in quick to avoid disappointment. This trip will be followed by a reciprocal visit to Yamba by the Park Beach Pirates on Sunday August 28. Social bowls continues with pairs on Wednesday and triples on Friday. All games commence at 1pm and names need to be on the respective nomination sheets by 11.30am on the day of play. All nominations are guaranteed a game and visitors are most welcomed. Results from last week are: Wednesday 25th May: Winners: Neil Franey and Danny Dugina; Runners-Up: Lance McCarthy and Don Freeman; Consolation: Jake McHutchison and Ron Clay.
