Yamba Minor Pairs winners crowned

Saturday May 14 witnessed the completion of the Minor Pairs Championship with the playing of this year’s final between the teams of Bob & Chris Gunning up against the combination of Keith Smith & Len Yeomans.

Watched by a healthy contingent of fellow club members the first few ends of the final remained a close affair up till around a third of the way through the game where Bob & Chris started to gain the ascendancy by gradually extending their lead into a comfortable 10 shot advantage, a lead that Keith & Len could not bridge primarily to a very good demonstration of consistent bowls by the Gunning duo.

Whilst Bob Gunning bowled well it was Chris who was the star of the show with his wonderful display of draw bowls proving decisive in helping the father son duo eventually taking the win by a healthy 30 shots to 9 shots.

Congratulations to Bob & Chris on a well-deserved win.

Displayed on the notice board is the draw for the Major / Minor Pairs with a pleasing entry list of 20 sides involved.

The first round will be played on Saturday May 28 at 9am followed by the second round on the same day commencing around 1pm.

The very best of luck to all the nominated teams and we are sure that whichever side takes this year’s title they will certainly have to earn it due to the high quality of the teams that have entered this event.

Also on the notice board is the nomination sheet for the Minor Singles for those bowers still eligible to contest this championship.

The nominations for the minor single close on Wednesday June 8.

Any player who is unsure of their eligibility to play in this event please see bowls secretary Peter Forrester for clarification.
