A 36-year-old man is recovering from facial injuries after police said he was seriously assaulted by a group of teenagers outside a Yamba motel earlier this month and the attack was allegedly captured on video.

When the man’s employer, Dan Leaver posted on Yamba Neighbourhood News Facebook page about the incident there were more than 30 comments and angry reactions from locals.

“I’m from Coffs Harbour and I employ a guy who was assaulted last Saturday night outside the Yamba Motel,” Mr Leaver wrote.

“He was by himself walking home when he was attacked by 5 young individuals.

“He can’t remember much of the altercation as it sounds like he was hit from behind and then beaten and kicked to an inch of his life while one of the kids were filming the whole ordeal.

“He was taken to Grafton hospital and then transferred to Tweed Heads.

“Anyone with information can you please DM me or contact Yamba police.”

One local woman commented, “I’m told footage has been given to police”, and Mr Leaver replied, “Yes there is footage of the whole thing” “that’s how we know someone was filming the attack”.

The incident comes just two weeks after four people were assaulted and treated in hospital for injuries after a home invasion on Kohler Drive, Yamba.

When contacted by the CV Independent, a NSW Police spokesman confirmed the serious assault.

“Just after midnight on Sunday 8 September 2024 officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District were called to Yamba Street, Yamba, following reports of a verbal altercation between a man and a number of teenagers outside an inn,” the spokesman said.

“A short time later, the man was assaulted before the group dispersed.

“The injured man, aged 36, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for facial injuries, before he was taken to Grafton Hospital for further treatment.

“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and contact local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
