Col Cromack stars in midweek golf One hundred and forty six keen golfers greeted the starter in the midweek Stableford event at Yamba Golf Club on Thursday and scores equalled their enthusiasm. Score of the day was recorded by Col Cromack when he won the B Grade trophy with a massive 44 points leaving Max Gibbs (43) and Peter Blom (40) in his wake. In A Grade Barry Fisher cemented his place as one of the best golfers in the club with a great 43 points to win from Alex (not again) Podbereski (40) and Graham Kulmar (38). Ken Hall returned to the winner’s circle with a fine round of 41 points to win AR Grade., Second place went to Andrew Bennett (40) followed by Gus Young (39) on a c/b. In C Grade John Dwyer had a day out when he scored 42 points to win from Ross Wilson and Jack Esau who both had 40 points and were separated by countback. The annual visit by Ocean Shores saw a resounding success to the local golfers in the friendly encounter for club shirts. NTP’s were sponsored by SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapist and Yamba Barber Shop. Nearest on the 3rd was Ken Hall 140cm, 9th Chris Holst 299cm, 10th Richard Beresford 142cm, 12th Warren Thoms 160cm and 17th Bill Williams 69cm. Ball winners required 36 points with 18 on the back nine. Saturday Stableford to Stephen Mckenzie Threatening skies frightened off a few golfers on Saturday but the day turned out to be perfect for golf. In A Grade David Bruton continued his run of good form to win with 41 points from Chris Holst (39) and Bruce Lulham (38 c/b). Warren Hughes showed the benefit of good tuition to win AR Grade with 39 points on a c/b from Ken Dewar. Ken scored a magnificent eagle on the second hole to win the eagles nest. Following closely was Andrew Bolte on 38. The best round of the day was returned by Stephen McKenzie with a great round of 42 points. The minor placings were taken by Peter Sharp and David Schwarz who both scored 39 points and visited the c/b for separation. In C Grade Don Schlussler was the winner with 40 points from Noel Collie (39) and Barry Hall (37). Laurie Arnott was closest on the 3rd with 313cm, 9th Ken Dewar 272cm, 10th Ian McAlpine 36cm, 12th Barry Bartley 232cm, 17th Tony Burley 600cm and 2nd shot to 17 Peter Auliff 156cm.
