ABOVE: Lyn Olsson (l) is congratulated by President Robyn McPherson on being awarded Life Membership of YWBC.
Lyn Olsson has been created a Life Member of Yamba Women’s Bowling Club following their quarterly meeting last week. Lyn is a most worthy recipient of this honour, having been a leading player for her club, district, and state throughout her long and distinguished bowling career, as well as serving in a multitude of administrative roles at club and district levels. A member of YWBC for the past 21 years, Lyn has taken out numerous championships across all forms of the game, and such is her magnanimity, she is always willing to play social bowls to help nurture new bowlers as much as possible. She is also a tireless worker for the club (and district) willingly putting up her hand to do whatever jobs need to be done and filling whatever roles were needed. The depth of her experience and knowledge of the game and its administration in invaluable. Ever modest, Lyn has never promoted herself, but always puts her club, district and sport first (after her family and loved ones, of course). Typically, in her acceptance speech, she encouraged members to be prepared to put in to keep our sport going forward, as without volunteers to administer the club, we cannot play. Lyn joins YWBC’s two existing and esteemed Life Members, Shirley Drum and Betty Scott in this most important and honoured role. On the greens, the match of the week was the pairs game between Bev Shatte/Gloria Davis and Sandra Dorman/Pam Conley on Tuesday 17th. In a real battle royal, Bev and Gloria got off to a good start before Sandra and Pam fought their way back from a 7 shot deficit at 3-10, to be within 1 shot three ends later. With the score at 10-9, Bev and Gloria picked up their game, and despite their opponents’ determination, eventually won 14-13. Bev and Gloria were justly rewarded when they were drawn as the lucky runner up Bowlo Bucks winners. The winners Bucks went to Sandy Owen (who is making this a bit of a habit) and Joan Scadden, while Gwen Hoskin and Carol Casement took home the consolation Bowlo Bucks. Then on Thursday 19th Helen Scott/Pam Conley/Denise Burey won the lucky winners Bucks, Sonia Graham/Sue Lindsay/Joan Scadden/Catherine Aitchison the lucky runners up, and Raels McKibbin/Judy Richter (visiting from Logan City) and Chris Cole took out the lucky consolation prize. Our club congratulates South Grafton’s Candy Nixon on taking out the CRDWBA Singles title, and wishes her all the best when she represents us at the playoffs. Our Helen Atkinson really challenged Candy in their semi, while our other semi- finalist, Wendy Ballantyne won in a long tough game. Ultimately, Candy just proved too good and is a most worthy Champion. But we are very proud of the strong showing all our members made throughout this very challenging competition. Wendy Ballantyne
