Yamba Evening VIEW- enjoys the night

cvi   We welcomed 27 members and three guests, to the dinner on November 9. Our club supports three “ Learning For Life” students, through an Education Program, administered by the Smith Family. It was lovely therefore, to receive a thank you letter from, Mia, Joel and Tyrone. This reminds us all, how important the program is and the role we play in it. Three vouchers for end of year presentations, have been sent, to Yamba Public, St James and Palmers Island, schools. Committee member, Yvonne Darling, has taken on the role of Welfare Officer and visited our ladies who are unwell, thank you Yvonne. Functions to remember for 2016 are, International Women’s Day, which will be on March 11, at a cost of $25. View head office, will have a Literary Luncheon for IWD on March 8. The event is held at the Grace Hotel in Sydney, cost of $80. On November 13, 18 ladies met at Peter Nicolson’s Fine Food, for a “Tour and Taste” experience and taste, we did! Fruit vinegars, garnishing pearls, spice mixes and chocolate mousse. A ”foodie paradise in Yamba” that is how it is described, our host Peter being the winner of 12 Australian Championships. At the after purchases, I sat down rather than be crushed in the rush to buy and I can tell you there were many heavy bags going out the door. After dinner Margaret introduced our guest speaker Jon Bunch, who told us his vocation in life was probably formed, when he was about 8 years old and his father won a 8mm movie camera and his mother was absolutely mad about the cinema. He went on to become a television camera man, working at the ABC in Sydney, before heading off overseas. He stayed away 26 years and was lighting operator at Prince Edward Theatre in London’s West End. Two hundred and sixteen performances of Evita later it was time to move on. He had many wonderful jobs with the BBC, CNN and others around the world. Jon said he saw the Berlin wall go up and he was there when it came down. Thanks Jon. Our next meeting will be our dress up Christmas dinner on December 14. To advise, email yamvaview@gmail.com or phone Marlene on 6645 8721. New friends are always welcome. Marg Maher
