It’s end of year party time for our lady golfers. Wednesday saw our ladies hold their party day event, which commenced with a champagne breakfast on the balcony followed by a four person drop out ambrose event.
Our annual presentation night will be held on Thursday 26 November, commencing with drinks at 6.30pm, followed by the presentation of trophies at approximately 7pm. Dinner is scheduled to be served at 7.30pm.
Saturday ladies party day has been rescheduled to this coming Saturday. A draw for partners for this event will take place at approximately 7.20am. Any lady, who has played on a Saturday during the year, would be made more than welcome and should arrive at the course by 7.15am.
Monday of last week saw the party day for the 9-hole players and beginner golfers with a dropout Ambrose event attracting a large field of 26 players, which included a contingent of our 18-hole lady members, and was kindly sponsored by Steven of Grafton Textiles.
The 4 person team of Helen Hopwood, Wendy Gibbs, Bev Correy and Sally Beresford came in as the winners with a score of 34 ¼. Second place was awarded to a 3 person team comprising Sharyn Rowles, Judy Burt and Denise McCleery with 34 1/3. Gai Leeson, Netty Bennett, Helen Niland and Gwen Ashbrooke placed third on 35.
Monday players were also presented with their special awards for the year. Netty Bennett was the recipient of the Most Improved Beginner award and Bev Correy took out the Beginner Encouragement award.
A special toast was made to Olga Morrissey who was in attendance celebrating her 80th birthday. Congratulations and best wishes to Olga from all our ladies.
It was lovely to welcome Kay Peoples back to golf last Wednesday for our 18-hole Stableford event. With a field of 47 starters, Cheryl Shanley continued her good scoring to come in as the Div 1 winner with 38 points (look out Cheryl, the two Mary’s will be onto you) ahead of Elaine Shand on 36 and Peg James on 35 who are also both continuing to play some nice golf.
Marie Hayes had a good round to take the win in Div 2 on 37 with Beryl Wilks the r/up on a c/b from Liz Fisher on 35pts. It is nice to see Sue Heath getting back into her golf placing 1st in Div 3 on 35 with Lorraine McLaughlan 2nd on 33 and Judy Burt was 3rd on 32.
Obviously the heatwave conditions on Friday deterred many ladies from coming out for the Stableford event. With the temperature predicted to top 40 degrees, only 11 very enthusiastic or crazy golfers entered the competition.
Cathy Jones was certainly the hottest of hot, when she came in with a fantastic 39 Stableford points, with daylight between her and the next best. Elaine Shand was the r/up on 34 points on a c/b from Noeline Smith. Elaine was on fire with a very accurate round which gave her both the NTPs on the 1st and 10th holes respectively. Two balls were given to a score of 31pts on a c/b.
The very warm morning on Saturday also kept quite a few of those players away. With only 4 ladies prepared to once again ignore the oppressive weather, perhaps gold medals should have been awarded to Noeline, Marianne, Peg and Mary for their tenacity on both Friday and Saturday. However, with a very respectable 33 stableford points, Mary received the winner’s “cheque”.
With our important annual major greens renovations set to commence on Monday 30 November, our competition next Wednesday will take the form of an 18-hole Stableford event with an added twist. The event will be played as a normal stableford format but will require no putting. However, the addition of 2 strokes per hole must be added to your score on each hole. Of course your ball must have completely reached the green before adding the further 2 strokes.
Bendigo Bank has once again generously come on board as our much appreciated sponsors for our 2015-2016 Summer Consistency competition.
