Last Wednesday’s Legacy Day and medal round certainly saw some impressive scores with our President Heather Robinson one of the top scorers on the day when she took out the Div 1 medal with a fine 72 nett. Heather was also the putting winner with 29 putts.
Reigning Ladies Champion, Jen Townsend had the best gross score on the day with 86 and was the nett r/up on 74. 3rd place went to past champion, the evergreen Jeannie Dahl O.B.E. on 77 on a c/b from Captain Noeline.
With her continued return to form, Sonya Baker had a fantastic round to take the medal in Div 2 on 72 as well as the best gross on 97. Sonya played lovely golf from start to finish and her putter was on fire whilst amassing a run of five/one putts in a row. This also gave Sonya the putting win on 30. Sonya produced some great pars on the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 11th holes. Marg Manahan was nett runner up on 76 with Shirley Avery 3rd on 77 on a c/b.
Div 3 saw Jan Hamilton still retaining her championship momentum and good form for the year to come in as the nett and gross winner on 74/102 to claim the medal. Beryl Wilks was one shot behind on 75 to claim 2nd spot as well as the O.B.E. winner for the day. Marie Watsford placed 3rd on 77 and the putting winner was Julie White on 31.
With the weather on Friday, for the last day of July, more akin to a glorious sunny spring day, 34 ladies took to the fairways to compete in the day’s stableford event. Kaye Murdoch, who is a member of the Howlong Golf Club, was welcomed into the competition and thoroughly enjoyed the course, the company and her golf. Playing off a handicap of 16, Kaye was rewarded with a ball for her good score. We are looking forward to Kaye hopefully becoming a regular competitor in our fields.
Eve Macpherson had a lovely round to come in as the Div 1 winner with 36pts c/b from “the very hot” Sonya Baker. The perennial Noeline Smith played another consistent game, and is looking even more of a threat to the Consistency Queen Marianne, after placing 3rd on 34 on a c/b.
Marie Watsford is playing some great golf also, and took the win in Div 2 with 35. Jan Hamilton was in the money for the second time during the week to come in 2nd placed on 34 from Julie Bennett on 33. Jan also received the ntp with her 2nd shot on the 17th and Cathy Jones was the winner on the 1st. Seven balls were given to a score of 31.
Following a blue moon on Friday night, Saturday revealed a picture perfect morning for the 12 ladies entered into the day’s stableford competition. Dell Burke played a nice round, which included some very skilful and accurate chipping, to come in as the winner on 34 on a c/b from Chrissy Danvers, who reportedly also, played lovely golf. Chrissy had a great NTP 2nd shot on the 10th.
Saturday’s event included the second round of the one on one stableford knockout competition.
The final will be played next week with Sonya to play one of the event’s sponsors and good friend, Glenda. Watch out Glenda, this girl is hot at the moment! Good luck ladies and we look forward to welcoming the co-sponsor, Lyn Rowland to the field next Saturday.
