Final Round of Grafton Championships The 4th and final round of our 2016 Club and Division Championships will be contested today (Wednesday), and we wish all players the best of luck and good golfing. Jen Townsend sits at the top of the leaderboard on 267, only three shots ahead of Sharyn O’Grady on 270. Janette Blair is in third place on 274 and, following Elaine Shand’s late charge, she is now in fourth place on 280. The leaderboard for the nett event is also a close affair with Noeline Smith and Jan Patterson both on 229. Jane Wolfe is next best on 230 followed by Janette and Jen both on 231. Millie Harris is in fine form and is leading division two on 299 from Sonya Baker on 304. Anna Bidstrup and Dell Burke are equal third on 309. Nett placings are Sonya (229), Anna (232) and Millie (233). Division 3 sees Kerry Harding, who has played some lovely steady golf, ahead by 12 shots in the top spot on 313 followed by Sandra Gleeson on 325, Marg Hall on 327, Julie Bennett on 328 and Marilyn-May Powell on 329. Nett placings are Marg Hall (226), Kerry Harding (227), Sandra Gleeson (231) and Marilyn-May Powell (235). Our medal winners last Wednesday were Jan Patterson (74 c/b), Sonya Baker (74) and Kerry Harding (72). Gross winners were Sharyn O’Grady (89), Sonya Baker (99) and Kerry Harding (101). Our O.B.E. winner was Jean Dahl (77). Kerry was the Bob Pike sponsored overall winner on the day with 72 nett and also took out The Coffee Club Aggregate prize for the month with a score of 71 points. Friday’s Stroke event attracted a good field of 45 starters and was again kindly sponsored by Bob Pike. The 3rd Round of our Championships was also held and produced some exciting golf. Following a three-way count back, Elaine Shand was declared the overall winner of the day’s event with 72 nett. Elaine had saved some of her best golf of the championships until Friday when she came in with 88 hits. Janette Blair also had her best round of the championships, firing 87 to take the win in Division 1 with 72 nett. Defending champion, Jen Townsend, was another player returning her best score to date (86) to come in second placed on 74 nett. Noeline Smith, who despite battling with the flu, received the third placed voucher with 77 nett on a count back. Division 2 winner was Jo Walters (who this year is unfortunately not contesting the championships) on 72 with Millie Harris second on 75 nett on a count back from Kerry Harding. The Division 3 winner was Marilyn-May Powell on 77 followed by Sue Byrnes with 78 on a count back from Liz Smith. The winner of Saturday’s competition, and the recipient of the Bob Pike sponsored prize, was Kate Thomson with a fabulous 70 nett. Courtney Fuller was next best (71) followed by Jean Dahl (72). Ball winners were Glenda Chad, Viv Nichols and Sonya Baker. Grafton Lady Golfers congratulate Sue Reguson (Dahl) on winning the 2016 Coolangatta-Tweed Heads Ladies Club Championship. Sue played consistently good golf during the 54-hole championship to finish on 248, which was two shots ahead of the runner up, her golfing colleague and friend, Jodie Rockliff on 251. Sue also won the Jan Ashman Trophy for the best nett (146) over 36 holes. She was also named as winner of the 2016 Veteran’s Championship over 54-holes and took out the Mavis Rankin Perpetual Trophy for the Veteran’s best nett (224) over 54-holes. Julie White
