Want to get fit without putting too much strain on your body then rowing is the sport for you. Grafton Rowing Club is holding its next Come and Try Rowing day on Saturday, February 11 at 8am at its clubhouse at the river end of Prince Street, Grafton. Rowing combines aerobic fitness with strength, in a low impact, low injury environment, engaging muscle groups across your entire body, making it one of the most effective ways to get in shape. Our members come in all ages. High school students 12 years and over are most welcome to attend. We even have rowers over 80 years old regularly competing in competitions. Our members also come in all fitness levels, competitors and non-competitors. The try out day is free of charge, with no obligation to continue and starts with an information session which covers river safety, a walk through our rowing shed with an explanation of the equipment we have available. A session on the land based rowing machine (ergo) follows – whilst learning the basic rowing technique. Next its onto the water with our friendly experienced rowing club members for an on the water session. This morning session will last at least two hours and you are invited to stay for a free cuppa afterwards. You will however need to be able to swim at least 50 metres. If after the Come and Try day, you feel that you would like to learn to row, then join our beginners group commencing the following Saturday. The fee for the beginners group is $50 for seven lessons, and forms will be handed out. The final lesson will be on Saturday, April 1. If you then decide rowing is for you and you would like to join our club, you will be charged a nominal fee to take membership up to June 30. If you would like to try this sport, please text us on: 0421 115 617; or email: graftonrc@graftonrowing.asn.au and then turn up 8am on February 11. If you have rowing experience and would like to join us simply come down to the rowing shed any Saturday morning at 7am. Marion White
