Weather fools Yamba lady golfers

Last Wednesday’s cold, drizzly start deterred most of the field but, for the 13 ladies who played, conditions were perfect. By the end of play the drizzle had given way to clear skies and somewhat warmer temperatures.

With such a small field, there was only one grade. Jane Bonner was chuffed to win with a great score of 37pts, beating Ann Groom by two points (35pts). No NTP’s were awarded, while balls were given to 34pts. Despite only having six ladies present in the nine-holers, a competition was allowed. Susie Quilty was the winner (15pts).

Friday’s single Stableford competition had a field of 47 ladies.

Div 1 winner was Jennifer Fagan (37pts) and the r/up was Margaret Solomon (34pts). Lee Daley hit the course running and came away with a great score of 43pts to win Div 2 ahead of Sue Wilson. We have not seen Sue in a while, but she also did well with a score of 38pts to take out r/up.

Terri Collingburn won Div 3 (34pts) to beat Jo Foley (33pts).

The NTP winners: 3rd – Flots and Jets: Jennifer Fagan; 3rd (2nd) – Valley Finance: Jen O’Neill; 9th (2nd) – Peter Campbell Physio: Darrie Nightingale; 10th – Kitchen to Table: Sue Wilson; 12th – Amie Rose Beauty: Julie Vernol; 17th – Nicholson’s Fine Foods: Sandra Wallace and 17th (2nd) – Yamba Pharmacy: Kim Perl (Grafton visitor). Balls went to 32pts c/b.

Jennifer Fagan also played in Byron Bay’s Veterans Open Day last week and was pleased to come away with a ball for her efforts. As usual, the course and club were in pristine condition, and she had a fabulous day.

Saturday morning was surprisingly warm and with no wind and clear skies, the ladies were pleased with the playing conditions. Eight ladies played and birthday girl, Jenny Moody, came in the winner (33pts) on countback from Kathy Parker. Jenny also won the NTP.

This week’s rounds are Wednesday’s qualifying round for this year’s 2BBB Matchplay followed by a single Stableford game on Friday. Ladies are also reminded the John and Tash’s Farewell Day (Ambrose) is being held on Sunday June 27. Organise your partner (male or female) and have a fun day of golf followed by drinks and nibbles on the deck.

Well done to last week’s winners and happy golfing this week, ladies.
