The Harwood calls

Willie Hona plays a show at the Harwood Hotel this Friday night April 7.
Willie Hona calls Iluka home these days, but in the mid 1980s he was the front man for New Zealand band, Herbs – perhaps best known in Australia for teaming up with Dave Dobbyn for the #1 hit, Slice of Heaven. In 1984, Hona was working as a cabaret artist before he took his place as the new front man for Herbs. He contributed two songs to the group’s third album, Long Ago (the title track) and Nuclear Waste. Released as singles, these songs charted at number 22 and 32 respectively on the NZ charts. In 2012, Hona was inducted, along with the rest of Herb’s members, into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame. This Friday night, Hona plays just about any song you can think of at the Harwood Hotel.
