Sweet way to raise funds for local school

After the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic forced Palmers Island Public School to postpone and then sadly cancel their annual Family Fun Day, their P&C decided to have some fun in the kitchen instead and organise a lamington drive as their main fundraiser for 2021.

A merry group of mums will be making and baking several trays of the classic Aussie cakes.

And after several students generously volunteered to taste test the first few batches, and subsequently awarded the bakers rave reviews, orders are now open.

And you’d better be quick!

For $15 you can purchase a tray of six lamingtons, with the choice of original chocolate and coconut or chocolate and sprinkles if you would like something a little more colourful.

Orders can be placed at pipslamingtondrive.eventbrite.com.au and close on November 19.

P&C President Belinda Novicky said every cent raised is greatly appreciated.

“Support from the local community has always been fantastic,” she said.

“I know they will just love our lamingtons.

“It was sad we couldn’t hold our Family Fun Day, but we wanted to do something for the wider community and keep raising money for the school.”

Lamingtons will be freshly baked and ready to be collected from Palmers Island Public School on December 3.

Ms Novicky also said the school is planning to host the Family Fun Day in 2022.
