Truck driver arrested at Tucabia

Organised Crime Squad detectives have charged a truck driver who allegedly drove one of the most wanted men in the country across the Queensland border last week.

Acting on information from investigators, Queensland Police stopped a truck as it crossed the Queensland border around 1am on November 10.

Upon searching the vehicle, they located a 33-year-old man hiding inside a grey Mercedes in a shipping container on the back of the truck.

He was arrested and taken to Southport Watch House where a warrant was executed.

After initially being allowed to leave the scene, the 46-year-old male truck driver was arrested by officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command during a vehicle stop at Tucabia, about 20km north of Grafton, shortly before 9am.

The truck was seized and will undergo forensic and compliance-related examinations.

The truck driver was taken to Grafton Police Station where he was charged with intending to pervert the course of justice.

He was refused bail and appeared in Grafton Local Court via audio-visual link on the afternoon of November 10.

Investigations remain ongoing.
