Shirley Drum Triples to the ‘dream team’

A hat trick for the dream team – Lois Duncan, Julie Coulter and Wendy Ballantyne. To add to their recent successes at State and Regional level – this team has pulled it off again by taking out the Shirley Drum Triples winning all their games over the two-day event.

Six triples’ teams took to the green on Tuesday December 15under sunny skies and light winds for the first day of the two-day competition.

There were two games of 12 ends to kick off the first day of the competition with 20 points a win, 10 for a draw and 0 for a loss allocated. Teams were selected with a box draw.

The first day of play pretty much set the pattern for the final result – with Wendy and her team (with Jane Madden subbing for Lois on the second day of play) leading the pack with 100 points on the board followed closely by Marianne Jenner and her team of Marg Abbott and Julie Beaumont with 80 points.

On Thursday’s final day of play Wendy and team held their own coming home with a thumping 141 points to take first place with Marianne and her team coming in second with 114 points. In third place it was Carole Ritale and her team of Pauline Chilcott and Vicki Beddow with 68 points.

Congratulations to the winners and I’m sure all those not in the winning circle still enjoyed the event with great conditions prevailing and the concept of playing over two days in 12 end blocks something a little different from our normal days play.

Our thanks go to Life Member Shirley Drum who provided some cash prizes for those clever ladies who managed touchers at allocated points during the game. Those winners were Jane Madden, Julie Beaumont, Helen Kellett, Lyn McLean, Wendy Ballantyne and Chris Cole. There were also cash prizes for the winning teams and the last cab off the rank.

After bowls many of us enjoyed lunch together while we awaited the drawing of the lucky winners of the Christmas hampers. There were 17 hampers in all – all filled with goods donated by our very generous members – thanks go to all of you. So, some lucky people went home with some extra stock for the pantry and wine rack.

Following the hamper draw it was time to draw our major raffle which has been running for most of this year. Life Member Shirley did the honours here. And it was our member Lyn McLean who won the winning $300 Coles voucher – congratulations Lyn – with second prize of the $200 voucher going to Lisa Moore (a gift from proud mum, our Roz). Third prize of jewellery went to Cheryl Stokes and fourth prize of a large bottle of liquor to Cheryl and Maz. Thanks to everyone who supported our raffle and to all the members who took books for sale.

Happy Christmas and Happy New Year one and all! See you all in February. (Don’t forget mixed bowls Tuesday and Thursday from December 27 through to January 31).
