Setting a high standard

Ed, On February 3 at the Tucabia Hall community meeting, to discuss the proposed new gaol, the Member for Clarence publicly said to Terry Elvy: ‘Before you ask questions, become an Australian’. Terry tells me he was born in New Zealand and has been in Australia since 1980. The MP’s comment had no relationship to Terry’s questions. Ones country of birth has nothing to do with the relevance, veracity or validity of one’s questions, or one’s ability to ask questions, in Australia. To say that I was disappointed in Chris Gulaptis public statement is an understatement. Our manners in this Valley are better than that and our elected representative should be setting a high standard. John Hagger, South Grafton
