PB’s were the order of the for hillclimb competitors

Grafton Sporting Car Club hosted Round 4 of the hillclimb series on Sunday August 18. Perfect weather and a warm day must have affected the newly laid surface, as it had grip from the first run. A number of personal best times fell during the day.

Outright 1st went to James Short with a super quick 46.98, with Stan Pobjoy next with a 47.43. Stan’s open wheel race car has a supercharged VW engine and also comes with a spoiler alert. Third outright went to the elder statesman Newton Short with a 47.92.

Commiserations to Raymond ‘Todd’ Wedd, who while coming first in class 12, missed out on outright third by the proverbial apiarian appendage with a time of 47.93. It was a personal best time for Todd as well.

Fastest lady was Sonya Wilson in a Suzuki Swift. Congratulations to Jackson Green for joining the sub 60 sec club and being the fastest junior of the day. He focused on his Focus and got a respectable 58.97; very impressive for someone who is on his L plates.

Other class winners, and many with personal best times, were Craig Klingbiel, Greg Brown, Brock Beadman, Brock Wilson, Simon McDonald, David Cole, Gerard Boyle, and even yours truly managed a first with a personal best.

The next and final round of the hillclimb series will be on the weekend of September 28-29. Deep fried brain cells will be the order of the day as competitors will traverse the last two runs on the Sunday in the opposite direction without the aid of GPS. Entry for spectators is free, so come along and enjoy breakfast and lunch at the canteen (which has fresh hot cooked on the spot real food). Mountainview Circuit is a few kilometres down Clarence Way from Trenayr towards Copmanhurst.
