Osprey RSL Day Club information day

The volunteers were extremely active last week and attended a DVA volunteers training day last Monday week. These courses are run regularly to ensure your volunteers are equipped to not only provide you with a wonderfully entertaining day, but to ensure your safety and health requirements are met at all times.

Would you be surprised to learn that Day clubs were a joint initiative founded 43 years ago by DVA and the RSL clubs to support war veterans, and settle battle weary service personnel back into the community. Our Osprey Club will celebrate 20 years of proud service to the local community next year. Of course our membership is no longer restricted to returned service men and women, but our aim is still much the same in that we want to provide a friendly environment where like-minded people can gather for fun, friendship and food in a welcoming atmosphere.

Several volunteers also manned an information table at Yamba Fair where we handed out our lovely new brochures and talked with as many people as possible to spread the word about our Day Club. We need people to know exactly what we do, and that both men and women are most welcome; that there is no age barrier; that our club is for everyone interested in making new friends, playing Euchre, Uno, Scrabble, Rummikub……name your game and we will make it happen. You will be surrounded by vibrant happy people and volunteers who will make your day special. If you want to know more please ring Leanne on 0413 101 518 or just come along to the River Boat Room at the Yamba Bowling club, we are there from 10am to 2pm each Friday.

We were saddened by the passing of Lola Harris who was such a delightful long term member of Osprey. I admired her tenacity for life, her determination to do our exercises and strengthen her body and keep herself happy and functioning. Lola was so knowledgeable, so caring and so sweet. Our sincere condolences to Lola’s adoring family; she will be sadly missed.

A warm welcome was extended to Sean who joined us for the first time on Friday. I feel certain he enjoyed the day, particularly Joe’s intermittent jokes throughout the Bingo. Sean also won the Lucky door prize.

Pete and I won the $20 shopping vouchers which was nice.
