Orcas take on the Pointers

Capture   Eleven members of the Yamba Orcas Junior Swim Club travelled to Crescent Head on the weekend for the Crescent Head Pointers Swimming Club 7th Annual Carnival. The Orcas did their best to kerb the current shark problem on the NSW North Coast by going head to head with the Pointers at Crescent Head Pool. Swimming against not only Crescent Head, but other clubs including, Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Sawtell, and Macksville, the Yamba Orcas put in their best effort and had a great day in the pool. The swimmers and their families made a weekend out of the trip and camped at Crescent Head for two nights and enjoyed swimming in the river, surfing and skating the local skate park amongst other things. Results: Gus Gilbert: 1st 50m Butterfly, 1st 50m Backstroke, 1st 50m Breaststroke, 1st 50m Freestyle; Sienna Gilbert: 3rd 50m Breaststroke, 3rd 50m Backstroke, 2nd 50m Butterfly, 2nd 200m IM; Max Gilbert: 2nd 50m Freestyle, 3rd 50m Backstroke, 3rd 50m Butterfly, 2nd 50m Breaststroke; Toby Campbell: 3rd 50m Butterfly, 2nd 100m Breaststroke, 2nd 200m IM; Sasha Berry: 1st 25m Butterfly, 1st 25m Backstroke, 1st 25m Breaststroke, 1st 25m Freestyle; Alani Berry: 1st 50m Breaststroke, 3rd 100m Breaststroke, 3rd 200m Breaststroke; Zahri Berry: 3rd 50m Breaststroke, 1st 100m Breaststroke, 2nd 200m Breaststroke; Leilani Reed: 3rd 50m Butterfly. Soloman Reed, Axel Trotman and Zephyr Trotman put in a huge effort all day and swam personal best times in all of their events. Yamba Orcas team also placed 2nd in the Open 4 x 50 Freestyle Relay, 2nd in the Open medley Relay and 2nd in the mixed 12 & Under 6 x 50m Freestyle Relay. Thank you to super coach Richard for coming along to coach the team on the day and thanks to all of the parents that helped out with time keeping. The Yamba Orcas weekly Friday night carnival was once again a fun night with many kids already recording improved personal best time early in the season. Well done to all members who swam on Friday. Upcoming events include Halloween night with spooky games and special treats on October 30 and Banora Point Swim Carnival on Saturday, November 7.
