Not Malcolm’s brother

Capture   In 2007, FasterLouder described Geoff Turnbull as the “next roots figurehead of Australia [not the prime minister]” Continuing, the music website said he was “individual, definitive and electrifying”. Since then Turnbull has become a regular on the Australian festival circuit, performing at Peat’s Ridge Music festival, Festival of the Sun, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Nimbin Mardigrass, Day in the Vines, Open Arms Festival, Brisbane’s Urban Blues and Roots festival, Newcastle Blues Festival and Sounds on Sunset. He’s been on the road for a long while, too, having performed 1,200 shows over the past 15 years and covering 200,000km in his transit van. When he’s not playing his music, Turnbull is an advocate for youth mental health – he is currently completing his PhD, examining therapies for anxiety and depression – and he facilitates music workshops for LOVEBiTES; a sexual assault and domestic violence program for high schools on the mid north coast.
