Turning up to the pub for Grafton Rowing Club’s regular raffle night and for what was supposed to be an early Christmas party proved to be a surprise for the club’s captain and coach Ken Maughan. Having spent his 80th birthday in Brisbane with family earlier in the week, Ken was sure that he had avoided any chance of club members celebrating his milestone birthday, but to no avail. Members were joined by guests and former rowers from as far away as Brisbane, for what had to be Grafton’s best kept secret. Also on the night, long time member John Brien was presented with Life Membership for his support and work for the club over many years.
