Nick Abrahall in top form at 600 yards

On another day of good shooting conditions last weekend, there were some good scores compiled at the 600 yard second stage of the Treasurer’s Trophy monthly competition. There were six “possibles” [50/50] compiled on the day in the Target Rifle [T/R] division, with three being produced in their first stage shoots, by Nick Abrahall, Mathew Bloomer and Luke Bloomer, and three being compiled in their second stages by Nick Abrahall, Peter Nielsen and Ian Griffiths. Nick Abrahall’s “double” [100/100] with an extremely fine fifteen V’s in that total was the winning score in the Grafton ShoppingWorld Butchery’s Top Off-Rifle Trophy in this division. Ian Griffiths and Mathew Bloomer filled the minor places. Chris McKenzie continued on his winning way by taking out the Daily Aggregate once again. This gives him two top scores in the monthly trophy at this the half-way mark. In the F-Class Division, although there were no “possibles” produced, John Black, John Bloomer and Eli Grundy all came within one point of it in their second stages. John Black prevailed in taking out the Grafton ShoppingWorld Butchery’s Off-Rifle Trophy from David Grundy and John Bloomer, while Eli Grundy walked away with the Daily Aggregate in this division. Last weekend, Dennis Hilton from the Grafton Rifle Club was away in Sydney at the Anzac Rifle Range, Malabar, competing as a member of the annual City v Country teams match. In this hard-fought match, the two teams consist of fifteen shooters, and the match is fired over the four ranges, 300m, 600m, 700m and 800m. Dennis performed very well, finishing with 198/200 for the day. The Country team took the match decisively to extend its winning streak. There were some fine scores posted on the day with quite a few 200/200’s amongst the end results from both teams. Next week the shoot will be from the [dreaded] 700 yard mound for the third stage of the Treasurer’s Trophy, commencing at 1pm. The monthly meeting has been postponed to a date yet to be decided. The range is located at 434 Trenayr Road, opposite the Koppers log mill and adjacent to the Experiment Farm. Visitors and new members are always welcome. Anthony O’Keeffe
