A development application has been lodged by the NSW Rural Fire Service with council for a new fire station to be built in the upper reaches of the Clarence Valley Local Government Area.

The DA proposes a new three truck bay fire station to be built at 584 Ewingar Road, Ewingar, at an estimated cost of $880,000.

The proposed new Ewingar Rural Fire Service station will be located adjacent to the Ewingar Community Centre, on council owned land.

The new Ewingar RFS shed, if approved by council, will feature an 88 square metre office and multi-function area and a 280 square metre shed for truck parking, plus a storage area and toilets, designed to cater for eight to 10 Rural Fire Service fire fighters.

It will be constructed in a single storey configuration, on a concrete slab with Colorbond roof and cladded walls, built to Rural Fire Service specifications.

The Statement of Environmental Effects SEE lodged with the DA states the new station is a “much needed upgrade from the existing station.”

“Land is generally cleared with a few trees which do not impact on the proposed building,” the SEE says.

“No trees are to be removed prior to or during construction.

“All of the Ewingar area is subject to bushfire hazard.

“The construction of the new brigade station will assist in the control of the bushfire hazard.”

After the proposed development goes on public exhibition, it will come back before a meeting of Clarence Valley Council to be considered by councillors.

Council welcomes submissions from members of the community and industry stakeholders about this DA, all submissions are not confidential and considered public documents.
