Congratulations to the Maclean members who did well in the recent Blue Pacific Fours at Yamba. Coming second was the team of C Johnson, S Squires, J Parkes and Sandra Ferro (skip). In third place were J Cotten, C Shannon, C Byrum and V Daniels (skip). The Inter-district Games will be held at Cabarita Beach on September 17and18 and the district selectors have chosen R Haselum, C Byrum, J Parkes, S Ferro, M Stallard and J Hannah to be part of the Clarence River District team. There is a sheet on the board for the Gwen Ford Springtime Triples on Thursday September 10, closing on September 3. There will be two games of eighteen ends. The cost is $60 per team which includes morning tea at 8.30am and a light lunch. The retailer, Bowls on Belmont, will attend with a large range of clothing and bowls gear for both men and women. There will be a mixed visit to Park Beach on Sunday August 30 at a cost of $20 which includes morning tea, lunch, bowls and the bus which leaves the club at 7.30am. Dress is mufti and entries close on Friday August 28. A new member, Lee Rae, was warmly welcomed to bowls on Tuesday August 11. In the first round of the Minor Singles M Stallard defeated J Watkinson (consolation prize inc marker E O’Keefe) 25-12. In the second round M Stallard defeated D Newton on a forfeit because of ill health; K Hudson defeated L Bodycote 25-15 in a match that was closer than the scores indicate. The final will be played on Tuesday September 1 which is also the date of the next general meeting.
