Maclean Men’s Golf

Last weeks 9 hole Skins event was won by our President Paul O’Halloran with 6 skins including a 4 pointer. Runner up was Don Skaines who had 4 skins and a 4 pointer as well. Anyone wishing to play skins should be at the Club for a 1.30pm shotgun start each Wednesday. Thursdays Single Stableford saw some terrific scores carded but none better than Mark Rae, on a handicap of 6, with a one-over par round off the stick for 41 points. Runner up was fly in-fly out golfer Danny Woldseth with a very tidy 39 points. Not bad considering he only gets one game every four weeks when he is home from working in WA. NTPs went to straight shooting Leigh Barrington on both the 2nd and 11th, Mark Rae the 7th and Graeme Reti the 17th. Pro balls ran down to 35 points. The club welcomed visitors from Woolgoolga, Helensvale, Wantima and Yamba. Paul King our Club Pro has been very impressive of late with a fantastic round of one under the card last week. Saturdays Single Stableford sponsored by Michael Endean of A-1 Plumbing attracted a good field. Noel Butcher, who won last Saturday continued his winning form by taking out the event again with a solid 41 points. Barry Connelly was the runner up with a great round of 40 points from third place-getter Robert Fuller on 39. NTPs went to Luke Many the 2nd, Paul Farlow the 7th and Mark Andrews showed his accuracy to take both the 11th and 17th. The Thistle Hole, nearest to the pin for the 2 shots on the par 4, 9th hole, went to the big hitting Luke Many. The pro ball rundown went to 33pts. Highlights of the day included Captain Geoff Grayson, playing with an injured shoulder, outdriving his partners and parring the last. Craig Slaters second shot on the 8th from the drain managed to go backwards 100 metres after hitting a rock. Cath Parker bravely tried to hit her ball out of the water on the edge of the dam on the 11th. The ball stayed where it was but Cath, covered in mud, retreated to the ladies for a tidy up. Next Saturday sees the return of the popular 4BBB qualifying round for the Clarke O’Keeffe Shield sponsored by John Clarke and John O’Keeffe. Please note that the bridge will be closed Thursday from 9.30am – 2.30pm. Phil McGuire
