Maclean Medal of Medals sponsored by Valley Earthworks

A select field of winners from throughout the year competed from the black markers to see who could claim the ‘Earthworks’ prize for this year.

In A Grade, Anthony Mee had an exceptional round of nett 68 to win by clear three shots from Cory Lewis. Geoff Grayson was third on c/b from Corey.

In B Grade, the top three players on 70 could only be separated by c/b. Jack Silalack came out on top, just, from Greg Saul and Steve Follington.

In C Grade, Don Skaines finished a good year to just pip Bill Rorke on c/b with Ryan Eckersley just one shot back on 71.

Stephen Potter is muscling in on the NTP prizes being closest on the 2nd and taking out the prestigious Thistle prize sponsored by Sanctus brewery a slab of the clubs own ‘Thistle Lager’.

Peter Simpson was close on 7 and Bob Harvey found the pin placement to his liking on 11. A stiff breeze on the 17th meant Fraser marsh had to play full nine iron on 17. Undaunted he just slipped past the hole to win

The ball rundown went down to the nett 74 of Alex Robison.

The women had their own competition with a good field headed by Henry Taranto on 37 points just one clear of the steadily improving Tracey Johnson. Vero Morgan just pipped Maureen Killian with 34 points to take third spot.

A large contingent from northern NSW and southern Queensland enjoyed the challenge of Maclean’s back markers.

The grass is growing and after the greens renovation earlier this week they should bounce back to excellent playability for the next weekend.

Thursday Medley Stableford

Frequent nearest the pin exponent and not showing many the signs of extreme age, Rod Smith kept up his hole in one tally with an excellent ace on the second hole today.

After this the rest of the round was minor event for him but at 35 points and three ball prizes – not a bad day really.

In A Grade, Leigh Wilson had a day out with 40 points. He also had a big win in the 100-club draw held after his round. Another good day for a regular attender and investor in the club. Ross Allomes took second place on 37 points. He also took the NTP on 17th hole.

In B Grade, Graham Cox on an excellent 39 points just shaded the first prize from David Ball on 38. Graham also took the NTP on the 11th. One more for the ‘Table of Wisdom’.

Peter Hamilton reached the long par three 7th and also put it very close.

Mark Rae just managed to squeeze his second shot on the Thistle hole inside hopeful Philip McGuire, to take his customary prize but no Sanctus beer (which is Saturday only) Unlucky Mark.

Wednesday Skins

A bumper race day field with all the main contenders jostling for position, resulted in a four-way photo finish dead heat at the head of the field. Mick, Milo, Steve and the dreaded Hinchy could not be separated by the stewards. It was left to a sudden death card examination to decide that again Hinchy had just nosed out in front. A popular winner but the handicappers will be meeting before the next meeting on Wednesday at 1pm. Good to see Phillip Killian back in the paddock after career saving surgery. Hope he is back in the saddle very soon.
