Maclean host State Grade 3 Pennants finals

What a great weekend of bowls was had at our club with some great bowls witnessed by the large crowd of supporters. They came from near and far to support their champion sides playing the Round Robin and semi-final games of this year’s State Grade 3 Pennant finals. The weather was perfect for bowls and the Greens in pristine condition. Of the two Sections at our club, the Section 3 winner was our own Zone winner and neighbouring club Yamba, who went through the round robin sectional games unbeaten against Camden (Southern Highlands), Ettalong (Central Coast) and Merrylands (Western Sydney). Section 4 winner was Malua Bay (Far South Coast) who won on countback over Harbord (Sydney North Shore), Dora Creek (Newcastle) and were narrowly defeated by Armidale (New England). Malua Bay came out with all guns blazing in the semi-final against the locals Yamba. They quickly established a fifteen to eighteen shot break before Yamba got into gear and began to whittle away at the lead. Yamba clawed their way back to only be seven shots in arrears at one stage but Malua Bay kicked again and were never headed. Of Sections played at Yamba the winners were: Section 1 – Kempsey Macleay RSL (Mid North Coast) and Section 2 – Molong (Central West). In their semi-final, Molong was the winner. As I compose this report the final is being played out at Yamba club. Last Friday (July 29) two matches of Mixed Handicap Singles were played. For results see the section at the end of this report. As we hosted the State Pennant finals on the weekend there are no other Championship matches scheduled. Visitors are always welcome to visit our club. They are always welcome to join in a game of social bowls. Pairs on Wednesday afternoon and Triples on Friday.
