Maclean High Students graduate Cadet Program

  Lynne Mowbray A graduation ceremony of a different kind was held at the Gulmarrad Rural Fire service on September 2, which saw 36 students from Maclean High School, graduating from the Cadet Program. The students from years 9 and 10 participated in the NSW Rural Fire Service Secondary School Cadet Program, during Term 2 and 3 this year. The course is built around ten modules including Fire Fighting Drills, Organisational Culture and Structure, Code of Conduct, First Aid and Emergency Service Standards and Operational Procedures. Each of the Cadets participated in a skills demonstration on the Graduation day including a Drill Assembly for the Certificate Presentations. Five students, Callum Clark, Robbie Paull, Rebecca Paull, Lachlan Johnson and Ben Soden were presented their certificate and a hand signed book from Peter Watt for their assistance over the two terms as mentors, assisting in the training and development of the students. The following dignitaries were in attendance for the graduation ceremony: Clarence MP Chris Gulaptis – representing Hon David Elliot MP, Minister of Emergency Services. Principal Maclean High School – Mr Bob Perl, Cadet Co-ordinator Maclean High School – Mr Neville Lange, Manager Clarence Valley District – Superintendent Stuart Watts, Chief Superintendent Brett Condie, Manager Region North – representing Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons AFSM.
