Maclean & District Bowls Pennants

The semi-finals of the Club Open Pairs was played last Sunday morning with close results. The match between Ben Lee and John Deale requiring an extra end. The outcome was Kevin Johnson & Trevor Govey play Scott Fell & John Deale in the final on a date to be fixed. Players are requested to keep an eye on the noticeboard this week as the 1st Round of the Club Open Major Singles will be played this Sunday morning (April 24). The draw to be done this week. Pennants: Last Saturday we were successful in three of four grades, the 5’s, 6’s & 7’s having wins. However, the No 3’s went to South Grafton and found them too strong. This Saturday we only have the No 6’s away against Yamba (Gold) and the No 7’s away against Grafton. Our No 6’s will be our best hope of winning a Pennant this year as they are near the top of their points ladder with just three rounds left. Nominations are open for the Mixed Pairs which close on Tuesday April 26, the Veterans Singles closing on Friday April 29 and Minor Pairs which close on Friday June 3. The travelling bowlers ‘The Cane Cutters’ had their trip away to Alstonville Club last Thursday, as usual a great fun day was had by all. I believe that overall we gave them a touch-up on the greens. Anyone wishing to witness some top class bowls should attend our club this Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning as we have a visit from the cream of the strong Zone 11 Sydney State Champion side who will play trials against our own Zone 1 side here on our greens. Come along and see some greats such as Rex Johnson and co play.
