There were four matches of Club Mixed Triples played last weekend. This leaves this championship with only two matches to play, one semi-final and the final. It is hoped these matches can be finalised this weekend. The Club Mixed Pairs draw is on the board. Although this is a long weekend it is hoped that some first round matches can be played by mutual consent. I have just been informed that Jim Johnson and Ben Lee who substituted for Don Plummer, have won the first round of the Zone section of the State Champion-of-Champions Pairs. They defeated their opponents from the Tweed Byron District. However, on appeal I have been told that they were later disqualified. I cannot make further comment as I am unaware of the full circumstances. However, one wonders why they would have been allowed to play the match at all if they were not eligible. The ‘John Kelly Memorial Triples’ tournament is on Saturday October 10 and the entry-sheet is quickly filling, with over twenty teams nominated at this time, there is $2205 is up for grabs and only $20 per player entry fee. The last Friday ‘Single’ entry competition, September round was played. I will be interesting to see if there is a change in the leading player’s positions, when the points are tallied. After Round 7 (August) the leaders were Neville Harris 177, Mike Catlin 164, Trevor Govey 158 and Doug Starr 157.
