Maclean & District Bowls

The remaining quarter-final match of the Mixed Pairs Championship was played last Friday and on Sunday morning four matches of Mixed Handicap Singles were played. As we are hosting two sections of the State Pennant finals this weekend there are no Championship matches scheduled. However, if any other matches can be arranged by mutual agreement any other time mid-week please let Kerry know. Our men travelling bowlers ‘The Cane-cutters’ had their mid-year appreciation day on Saturday. A good fun day was had by all with the weather being kind. Our players who travelled to Brunswick Heads last Sunday and represented our District in the annual ‘Johnson/Dignan Shield’ competition found the opposition too strong on the day. The young No.1 Grade guns from Tweed and Northern Rivers District were just too good. Our boys tried hard but were just out classed on the day. This years’ winner was Northern Rivers (west) by a margin of just one shot from Tweed/Byron District. This weekend we will host half of the State No.3 Grade Pennant finals. The other half is at Yamba Club. We will have eight of the sixteen State Zones competing at our club. Three games of sectional round robin play on Saturday and Sunday morning with the winners playing a semi-final on Sunday afternoon. That winner will then play the other semi-final winner from Yamba’s Sections at Yamba in the final on Monday. So come along and see some great bowls played. Visitors are always welcome to visit our club and enjoy our renowned hospitality. They are always welcome to join in a game of social bowls. Pairs on Wednesday afternoon and Triples on Friday.
