Maclean bowlers played in the final of all three divisions of the District Singles last Sunday. We were successful in winning two of the three events. Warren McDonald playing at Iluka (State Open) defeated the highly performing Gary Harrison of Grafton GDSC with a score of 31-25. Gary Scott at Maclean (Senior’s) defeated Jack Law of Iluka with a final score of 31-17. In the Presidents Reserve event at Yamba our Ross Murphy lost to Steve Colley of Brooms Head. Congratulations to Warren and Gary and a well done to Ross. Club Championships The final of the Club Open pairs was played out on Sunday morning with Kevin Johnson and Trevor Govey against the well performed team of Scott Fell and John Deale. It was a tough grinding match with neither team giving an inch. Kevin and Trevor in the latter half began to draw away with some fine draw bowls and finally became champions for 2016 with a score line of 23-12. Congratulations to Kevin and Trevor and a well done to Scott and John. The first rounds of the Club Mixed Pairs have been set down for play next Saturday week (June 4) for a 1pm start. As a result of Saturday’s play on the District Singles the final of our premier event the Club Major Singles between Warren McDonald and Doug Starr could not be played on Sunday. It now may be played this Sunday morning or else on a date to be agreed upon. The Club Minor Pairs nominations close on Friday June 3 at 5pm. A nomination sheet is on the board for entries to our first tournament of the year the ‘John Kelly’ Triples on Saturday June 2. Already there are teams in. Only 26 teams can be accepted so be quick.
