Lower Clarence Rowers stand on podium

Five master rowers from the Lower Clarence Rowing Club – Keryn Saunders, Mandy Steel, Clare Millist, Joanne Meehan and Candice Jagoe competed at the NSW Masters Rowing Championships at Penrith recently.   They were also joined by Rosemary Boulton (Iluka) and Michelle Grimes (Murwillumbah). Everyone had a great regatta, rowed well reaching finals of all our races. Keryn won a silver medal in her single scull final with very fast finish. In the Women’s E double scull final Keryn and Mandy won their heat and in the final claimed the silver medal. Mandy and Clare won bronze in the Women’s F double scull final. Keryn, Mandy, Joanne and Clare won their heat in the WM F quad scull then in the final they finished a very close 4th in a photo finish with only half a second between 2nd and 4th places. They were rowing in a younger age group as their correct age group clashed with another race. Candice (who had finished 2nd in her heat) and Clare both finished 7th in their respective single scull finals. Candice and Keryn rowed in the Women’s A double scull finishing 5th in the final; a great effort with Keryn rowing in a much younger age group. Clare, Joanne, Rosemary and Michelle were 6th in the Women’s G quad final and then in the WG double in a photo finish Rosemary and Michelle finished 4th with Clare and Joanne 5th by a whisker. Thank you to Keryn for coaching us all and towing the trailer to Penrith. Clare Millist
