Apprentice jockey Leah Kilner has been discharged from hospital two months after she was involved in a serious race fall at Grafton.

Kilner was dislodged from her mount Stella’s Turn on July 3, when the two-year-old filly tragically went amiss.

After being transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, Kilner underwent surgery to reduce swelling on her brain prior to being placed in an induced coma.

While she was later cleared of spinal injuries, the popular young rider sustained fractures to her ribs and also suffered a broken clavicle.

Statements released by Racing NSW on July 5 and 10, revealed Kilner was making positive progress and was gradually being brought out of sedation.

As she continued to recover, Kilner was moved from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) into the High Dependency Ward before being transferred to the rehab ward in late July.

Racing NSW released a further update on August 9, revealing Kilner was progressing well and had enjoyed a day at the races in Brisbane.

Last week, it was announced Kilner had been discharged from the Princess Alexandra Hospital and would enjoy a week’s rest before receiving ongoing physiotherapy from home.

Kilner has continued to regain her mobility, but still has only 25 percent vision in her left eye due to nerve damage which will require further recovery time.
