Maclean High School students have a new seat on the side of their sports field thanks to a combined project between the Yamba Rotary Club and Maclean High School Interact Club. After determining what the needs of their school community were, the Interact Club students made a collective decision to provide covered seating for their school environment. The Interact students raised the money for the seat through donations received from helping community organisations out at events such as the Rotary book sales and the Yamba triathlon. Student Yee Ming Goh has been involved in Interact since year seven and said that she enjoys being part of the group. “I feel that being a member of the Interact club, has allowed me the opportunity to learn life lessons, not learnt conventionally in school,” she said. “As a group we’ve learnt to cooperate with each other, present ideas, become active listeners, to make speeches and to always look at the big picture. “You can see that the impact this has on you, not only personally, but within the community, when you help out at an event like the Yamba triathlon, where we helped the Rotarians feed the athletes. “As individuals we’ve all grown and what we’ve learnt has helped us to work as a team and will benefit us in our future lives.”
