Iluka Ladies Bowls Fours final

Seven teams entered the IWBC fours championship this year. Competition began on Tuesday May 17 and concluded with the final on Tuesday May 24. This year’s winners are the team of Lyn Millard, Barb Craig, Janny Franke and Shirley MacNeil. The winners all played well on the day and achieved a convincing win over the runner up team of Fay Flaherty, Wendy Peachey, Chris Morris and Marg Caldwell. Throughout the competition we had fine calm weather with very good playing conditions, which bowlers took advantage of and there were some fantastic bowls played, with some extremely close results in the round games. Due to a draw after 21 ends, an extra end had to be played in the game between Joyce Brooker’s team and Mary Arthur’s team and there was still only one shot between them. Results were as follows: Round 1: Joyce Brooker, Pat Welsh, Pam Mc Mullen, and Robin Granger d Mary Arthur, Lyn Connell, Marianne Jenner and Robyn Arthur; Fay Flaherty, Wendy Peachey, Chris Morris , Marg Caldwell d Anne Rawson, Kaye Becker, Pam Kennedy, Gerrie Rawlings; Michelle Swan, Carol Caldwell, Leigh Bowers, Lyn Briggs d Erika Karstens, Ros Duncan, Ann Mc Causland, Jan Ferguson; Lyn Millard team – bye Round 2 (semi final): Lyn Millard, Barb Craig, Janny Franke and Shirley MacNeil d Joyce Brooker, Pat Welsh, Pam McMullen, Robin Granger; Fay Flaherty, Wendy Peachey, Chris Morris, Marg Caldwell d Michelle Swan, Carol Caldwell, Leigh Bowers, Lyn Briggs Final: Lyn Millard, Barb Craig, Janny Franke, Shirley MacNeil d Fay Flaherty, Wendy Peachey, Chris Morris, Marg Caldwell. Thanks must go tour umpires Judy Mayman, Pat Welsh and Ray Flaherty and to our green keepers for once again producing beautiful playing surfaces for us. Bowlers, please take note that the nomination sheet for the minor singles was posted on Tuesday May 24 and nominations close on Tuesday June 7. Competition will then commence on June 14. Also look out for the entry forms for our Classic Triples Carnival to be played on July 18 and 19. Five games of bowls are played over the two days and the prize money is very generous and diverse.
