The final of the 2015 Consistency Singles Championship was played on Thursday August 27, 2015. Congratulations go to Shirley MacNeil who successfully defended her title from last year. Her opponent Michelle Swan was a very worthy runner up having played some very close games during the lead up games. Shirley however once again demonstrated her excellent stratagem and draw bowling skill. Thanks must be extended to all those who acted as markers throughout the competition, our controlling bodies and particularly our umpires Pat Welsh, Judy Mayman and Ray Flaherty. Without these people to provide the structure of the competition we would not be able to run our carnivals and championships. All games were played in a truly competitive spirit but also with great sportsmanship. Results of semi-finals are as follows: Michelle Swan d Lyn Connell; Shirley MacNeil d Lyn Millard. The club has several other reasons to celebrate currently. Firstly there has been the performance of our Pennant team at the State titles at Culburra, Southern NSW. Our Iluka team played in Grade 4, section 2 and accumulated 9 points after three games to finish second in their group. This was a very worthy effort on unfamiliar greens and in very chilly conditions. Unfortunately there was no place in the finals, but all our ladies enjoyed the experience and enjoyed seeing the top quality players at the State Titles. Our Iluka Fours team of Mary Arthur, Lyn Connell, Ann MacLean and Robyn Arthur played in the Regional Championship play-offs at Yamba on August 3 and acquitted themselves with great sportsmanship and skill. They were knocked out in a very very close game that went down to the final end. Thirdly we have six of our players who have been selected to represent our district at the Inter-district Games to be played at Cabarita on September 17 and 18. All our members are very proud of all these achievements and our best wishes go with the members going to Cabarita. Socially we are farewelling a lot of our Southern visitors, however numbers have still been very good for the last couple of weeks. Upcoming events are the Hibiscus Day on September 8 and our club will host CRDWBA Gala Day on October 1. A reminder that each Thursday morning is Mixed Bowls and we do a box draw. Everyone is welcome.
