Iluka Ladies Bowls Biggest Morning Tea

On Thursday May 12 the Iluka Bowls Club was abuzz as people streamed in to enjoy a cuppa and delicious food courtesy of the members of Iluka Women’s Bowls Club. The members had provided delicious food for morning tea. There was something for all tastes from savoury to wickedly sweet and rich and also gluten free choices. For a gold coin donation, everyone was welcome. An added attraction was the market stall that the ladies had filled with flourishing plants, produce, preserves, craft items, knitting and knick knacks. All items were popular choices with the visitors and as the stall emptied the amount raised for the Cancer Council grew. Another activity of interest was the raffle organised by the Ladies club. One of our members Janet Kennedy a local artist had donated a stunning painting of a familiar scene around our water ways. Also we had two other prizes donated by members. Among our group we have several green thumbed gardeners and Margaret Caldwell and Mary Arthur both donated beautiful plants as prizes. To complement these plants, Margaret’s husband John had made two very striking timber planter boxes. Lastly we were very thrilled to receive a voucher from Sarah one of our local hairdressers. We are very grateful to all these people for their generosity and efforts and for helping us to raise much needed funds for the cancer council. Winners of the raffle were Maralyn Thomme, Betty Jones, Margaret Dorrell, Margaret Friend. President Kath and members were delighted to raise over $2000 for the Cancer Council. Obviously a cause close to the hearts of many, those in attendance gave generously to help research into this insidious disease. Mixed bowls went ahead as per usual on Thursday and after the box draw was done bowlers enjoyed not only a beautiful morning of bowls but also came in to partake in the Cuppa for Cancer. All in all it was a wonderful success socially and financially. Our bowls calendar continues with the Club Fours for the next week and then the District Triples are played here from May 31.
