A very happy camper was our winner Paul Maclean (centre) with his winning voucher presented by Geoffrey Prentice (left) and sponsor for the day Brad Broad.

Iluka Golfers Vs Bowlers Challenge

Last week’s event was a single Stableford competition played in overcast conditions with rain threatening but holding off for the better enjoyment of all golfers, although the wind caused havoc for a few. The course was again beautifully presented by greenkeeper Doug Turner and his Army of Merry Volunteers.

The event was sponsored by regular visitor Brad Broad and his wife Carolynn, from the Sunshine Coast. Many thanks for your support and we hope you keep Iluka on your vacation agenda.

The winner was Paul Maclean with 39 points on a countback from his playing partner and runner up, Stewart Hase, also with 39 points. The winners were at a loss to explain that they did not win the money in their four and were well held right up until the 18th hole. It was a wonderful hard fought match all day with a lot of banter going back and forth.

NTP’s: 1 / 10 was Jim Hartcher; 6 / 15 was Paul Mitchell; 8 / 17 was visitor George Schymko. The Roy Ellery 3rd shot on 3 / 12 went to regular winner Noel Chambers.

The Barry Robbie Mars Bar & Porcelain Cup went to Geoffrey Prentice, who came down from his extended high bubble and landed with a heavy thud and very humble score indeed. Said it was his first Mars Bar in 25 years! However he kept his humour and ended the day on the podium with a hilarious yarn that had everyone in fits of laughter; great to see the happy fellowship in the clubhouse.

The ball rundown went to 9 players with 35 or better.

A very important contest coming up on July 14 is the Golfers Vs Bowlers Challenge which is a unique day for all Iluka. The format is a morning bowls contest at the bowls club followed by a 9 hole Ambrose event at the golf club. The scoring mechanism and winning formula is a closely guarded secret so that no one can predict a winner until the final card is handed in. A great day of social fellowship is ensured giving either the club bragging rights for a year and a wonderful trophy for the display cabinet. So book your playing spot now at the bowlo or the golfo. Go the golfers!
